There are many organizations in our community that continue to protect, preserve and promote Japanese culture, traditions and language.

Experiences beyond the classroom will help you internalize and make connections to the concepts, values, behaviors and language we are studying in class. Take time to check out as many of these organizations and the various events they hosts. You can use them to fulfill your Community Project requirements. Some are free and some have a cost attached, so select wisely.

The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii (JCCH) is located in Moiliili across the street from Longs. They host many workshops, special events, festivals and exhibitions throughout the year.

Check out their website at http://www.jcch.com/ for more information about their activities. Check with sensei to be sure the activities you select to attend can be used for your Community Project

KIKU television has been the leader in Japanese programming for decades. Japanese programs are shown nightly from 7:00-10:00 pm. Information about the various programs, schedules and upcoming events in the community can be found on their website at http://kikutv.com/ and http://kikutv.com/community-calendar/ respectively.

Please be sure you are viewing only programs shown on KIKUTV for your TV Log Project. Although there are many other wonderful shows that can be found on the internet or cable channels, we do not want to have any issues with age appropriateness or piracy.

The Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA) is located at the Hawaii Okinawa Center in Waipio. Their focus is to perpetuate the culture, language and traditions of Okinawa through the Uchinanchu community.

They host many events throughout the year. Check out the website at:  http://www.huoa.org/nuuzi/about/hoc.html.

The Japan-America Society of Hawaii has hosted many programs to help perpetuate language, cultural understanding and other educational opportunities for everyone.
