Task: Create a Japanese bento

 

Parameters:

੦ Ingredients in your bento need to be items typically found in a Japanese bento.

੦ You can receive help, (cooking advice, help with the stove, etc) but you will need to be responsible for making the bento yourself.

੦ Your bento has to have a theme and at least two side okazu,  main dish, and starch.

 

Research (2.4.1)

੦ Write a report (double-space, Times New Roman, 12 pt font) on what you researched about your bento

੦ Cultural background: where did the bento come from? How has the bento evolved? How has it changed? Compare and contrast the earliest known bento with the modern Japanese bento, etc.

੦ Compare and contrast modern-day Japan’s bento and modern-day Hawaii’s bento. How are they similar? How are they different? How has the Japanese bento influenced the products, practices, and perspectives of the Hawaii bento? In other countries? How may have other countries influenced the Japanese bento?  Etc.

੦ Describe your perfect bento. Where would you eat it? What would be in it? What would it look like? Etc.

 

Presentation (2.3.1)

੦ Using your bento as your visual, explain what is in your bento using only Japanese

੦ Name your ingredients in Japanese and give the English equivalent. Explain the reasoning behind why you decided to use that ingredient.

Must include at least half of the following:
